New Free Secondary School Approved for Middlesbrough

We are delighted to announce that our application to open a new free school in the Middlehaven area of Middlesbrough has been approved. The proposed new school will be named Outwood Academy Riverside, a change from the original suggestion of Outwood Academy Middlehaven, following discussions with local children and adults.

We are now entering the ‘pre-opening phase’ of our journey which means we are able to start incredibly exciting work, putting in place all the different elements to make a vision turn into a reality. One of the first steps in this phase is to secure and agree on a site where Outwood Academy Riverside is located, we will update you with news on this when we have it. If you wish to follow our journey updates will appear on our website and through our social media channels.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and shared our vision up until this point. We are ecstatic with the news and what this means to our local community, we will continue to update you along our journey. Our absolute focus remains Students First: Raising Standards and Transforming Lives.

Outwood Academy Riverside announces temporary home

We are delighted to announce that our temporary home, until we move in to our state of the art permanent new build, will be 100 Russell Street in Middlesbrough (see image below). In order to ensure that Outwood Academy Riverside provides a fantastic learning environment for all our children a full high quality refurbishment will take place at 100 Russell Street. We are incredibly excited to be able to share this news with you and will post updates on our social media pages over the coming weeks and months.

Report on Section 10 Consultation

The initial engagement with stakeholders began in 2017 when Outwood Grange Academies Trust began discussions with Middlesbrough council regarding the need for a new free school. Formal statutory consultation ran from 20th December 2019 to 23rd January 2020.

The local community has responded very positively throughout this period. We would like to thank all those who have taken the time to give feedback. Suggestions and comments have been considered, responded to and are shared in the document below:
